The Health Care Movie

This 65 minute documentary tells the real story of how the healthcare system in Canada turned out to be so completely different from that in the United States, when in the 1950's they were essentially the same. While Canadians experience the benefits and peace of mind of Canada's universal healthcare system, the forces against change in the U.S. have much more at stake financially. Is there hope for the United States?

Narrated by Kiefer Sutherland.

“Mighty” Mike McGee with Guests

  • Date: 05/07/2014

  • Time(s): 8:00pm (7:30 Doors)

  • Location: The Bartlett

My name is Michael Matthew McGee. Most people call me Mike. Professionally, I am known as ”Mighty” Mike McGee in the world of poetry slam, spoken word and comedy. It rolls nicely off the tongue and helps differentiate me from other awesome people named Mike McGee, of which there are many. I was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky (on the border of Tennessee) with a mild form of Spina Bifida, a neural tube defect that has impacted my life on a daily basis. It is probably the foundation and origin of my love of humor, art and language.

I have four sisters and three brothers and am the eldest.

I have toured roughly 600,000 miles as a performer and speaker.

WICKED - The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz

Back by “Popular” demand. Variety calls WICKED "a cultural phenomenon,” and when it last played Spokane in 2011, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, WICKED is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times). Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One - born with emerald green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for "the most complete - and completely satisfying - new musical in a long time" (USA Today).

Terrible Buttons + Planes on Paper

  • Date: 05/09/2014

  • Time(s): 8:00pm (7:30pm Doors)

  • Location: The Bartlett

TERRIBLE BUTTONS, a seven piece outfit from Spokane, have been playing their brand of spooky blues rock for roughly 4 years now. They have released two EP’s, 2010′s Brute Neighbors and 2011′s Plates of Ether, and recently released their debut full-length album, RUNT.

2012 saw Terrible Buttons touring extensively on the latter EP, garnering high praise from the press, and winning them a multitude of new fans. After performing all over the northwest, midwest, California and Alaska, the year was closed appropriately with a debaucherous New Years Eve show alongside NW party legends Larry & His Flask. The band also turned in performances with Langhorne Slim, Laura Gibson, Y La Bamba, Cursive, Barcelona, Horse Feathers, and Loch Lomond to name a few.

The band’s debut full length, RUNT was released July 16th 2013 to a sold out crowd. Engineered and produced by Grammy Award winner Pete Stewart, ‘RUNT’ showcases Terrible Buttons ability to master multiple genres. From bayou blues to downright psychedelic, Runt is their most mature and cerebral release to date.

Sea Giant EP Release + Water Monster + The Finns

  • Date: 05/10/2014

  • Time(s): 8:00pm (7:30pm Doors)

  • Location: The Bartlett

Sea Giant is a synthpop group based out of Spokane, WA that consists of Conor Knowles (vocals, guitar, synth, programming) and Kyler Ferguson (vocals, keyboard, synth), with Tony Brennan occasionally on live drums.

“The two-piece, synth-and-drum-machine-driven band makes moody 1980s-inspired pop music, and it’s the sound they’ve always wanted to make. Lyrics are desperate, confused diary pages: “I don’t think that I could save your life/I don’t think I’ll even try,” they sing on “Close.” And behind their words are wailing, circus-like harmonies and dance club beats. It’s happy music about being sad.”
- Leah Sottile, The Inlander
